Response Card Wording

Response Card Wording

There is a lot to keep track of when planning a wedding and response cards should be worded to make your life as easy as possible. There are several examples of wording listed below. Feel free to mix and match pieces of different wordings to come up with what you need.

The first thing to do is contact your reception hall and find out exactly what they need to know and when they need to know it by. We usually recommend setting your “reply by” date 1-2 weeks before when your caterer/hall needs to know. This makes it about 3-4 weeks before the wedding, in most cases.

If you are going to have meal choices, does your caterer need to know just a total of how many of each meal, or do they (or you) need to know exactly what each person wants? Do you need to know how many adults vs. how many children are attending? You only get one chance to ask, so make sure to get all of the information that you need!

Traditionally, there would be a line that says, “M_______________”. This is for writing “Mr. John Smith” or “Mr. and Mrs. John Smith and family”. If you’d like to keep things formal, we recommend leaving that. However, in our not-so-formal society, we’ve realized over the years that sometimes the “M” is confusing and people either don’t know what to put or leave it blank entirely! It’s completely acceptable to put “Name” or “Name(s)” to eliminate any confusion.

If you have any questions about setting up response cards, please don’t hesitate to contact us. This is where our decade of experience and designing hundreds, if not thousands, of invitations comes in handy!
