Adding to the stress and uncertainty of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, social distancing, working from home, or not at all, many couples are being faced with the very real need to postpone the date for their weddings. Besides the logistical challenges of rescheduling an entire wedding, we have already gotten the question of, “What about our guests?”
If save-the-dates have gone out, but invitations haven’t, letting guests know by phone, email or social media is fine. Odds are most people haven’t made hard plans that far in advance. If you have a new date set, you could send a second round of save-the-dates, but that’s not necessary.
If invitations have gone out, but you still have few weeks before the wedding, we (and most wedding etiquette experts) would recommend having a small card (maybe a 3″ x 5″ or 4″ x 6″ card), printed that you can mail out to your guest list explaining that due to the unexpected pandemic and keeping the health and safety of your guests in mind, that you have made the decision to postpone the wedding to a later date. We have a few formal and a few more fun wordings that are appropriate in this situation. Contact us and we can help you come up with something that coordinates with your existing invitations, even if we didn’t print them, to help spread the word.
Because things are changing so quickly, you may not have time to get cards printed shipped, addressed and in the mail before the wedding date. In that case, the best bet is to start contacting guests by phone or email to let them know that things have changed. We can also help you create a custom graphic that you can use in emails or social media to help everyone find out quickly.
We know this is a stressful time, but we are happy to do whatever we can to help take at least a little bit of the stress of having to “postpone the date” off. Contact us today and we can help come up with the perfect solution for you.
